The stepping back part was sad.

And yet Octavia also moved to take the offered seat.

It was very sad. They'd have to fix it in a moment or two.

At least Lucifer chose to take the seat next to her, rather than the one opposite her, as he had done earlier in the night. He reached for the fruit again, finding an actual strawberry. "The classic."

"I would've made them all strawberries if I'd known it was a thing."

Maybe. She had a history of doing her own thing regardless.

Lucifer took an idle bite. (If she were anyone else, he would've offered to feed it to her.) "Ah, but your doing it your own way is part of the charm."

Octavia could get her own strawberry, anyway. (Even if he needn't have been wary of feeding her.)

"Probably would've done it my own way anyway," she admitted.

Look, Octavia and food was always... complicated.

"And that's why I love you," Lucifer chuckled, finishing off his strawberry. "Stubborn and unique."

"And bad at hiding either."

She reached out for another piece.

"Also part of the charm," Lucifer said.

His turn with the pineapple. He sighed happily.

And Octavia turned a little, just so she could stretch up enough to press a brief kiss to his jaw.

He sounded happy and light. There should be a reward.

Someone on the Rouge had to be, and Lucifer was the one with the least amount of problems at this point.

(Not that he thought about this so consciously, but part of him certainly saw it as his duty to be the fun one.)

"I need to let you handle the desserts more often," he said, beaming at her.

Octavia huffed, but there was a warmth to it. "That good?"

"Well, obviously the definition of 'good' is subjective, I'm sure I could make fancier," Lucifer said, "But I'm finding I rather like being surprised by what you come up with, and I've yet to be disappointed."
