The next morning, they marched on Shallow Valley again. )

And then Octavia opened her eyes again, and didn't even notice the tear roll the rest of the way into her hairline. It took her eyes a moment to adjust to the darkness, but then she saw them, treetops against the night sky, nothing but moonlight touching them.

She was laying on the forest floor.

This was a familiar dream. Countless nights in the bunker, she'd ended up in the woods. Either filled with shadows that seemed to move and to stalk, or - when she was lucky - filled with calm and quiet and no one and nothing else for miles.

She felt no danger here. Nothing moved in the shadows as she got up from the undergrowth. She didn't notice the things under her bare feet, crunching and scraping and pushing between her toes. Nothing could hurt her here, after all. She was sure of it.

And so she began walking.

And she walked and she walked.

And eventually she came to the edge of the forest, and wasn't at all surprised to see the castle. She'd seen it many times over the years, in her dreams, looming in the background of everything else.

She kept walking. Past the castle, towards the gates. Onto the cobblestone streets.

Down to the docks.

To the ship.

It wasn't always there when she came down here. Sometimes she couldn't even find the docks, but this time she had, and it was. She stood still for a moment, just looking at it, stretched out in its slip.

Then, she walked across the gangplank, and stepped aboard.

At first light the next morning, they marched. Every last one of them.

It was going to be a six-day journey.

On the second day, Bellamy and Indra approached Octavia at the front of the army. They told her Echo had radioed in. The enemy knew they were coming, so all three entry points into the valley were likely to be heavily guarded. Echo was scouting for the best way in.

Octavia said nothing.

Bellamy came to her again that evening, when they'd made camp for the night. )

Octavia woke up to someone gently nudging her shoulder. It was Jackson, the closest thing they'd had to a doctor since Abby had gone with Diyoza. Behind him, Indra. Octavia had no idea how long she'd been out of it, but it had been long enough for them to have turned her chambers into her own personal sick ward.

She told Indra her brother had poisoned her.

Jackson, shocked, told Indra to arrest Bellamy.

And Indra told them she couldn't do that.

And then, with Octavia able to do nothing but watch from the bed, Indra threw a knife. )

Octavia did what she did best: prepared to attack. She took a battalion to march to Shallow Valley. Bellamy and Clarke came with them, for reasons Octavia didn't ask about nor care to hear. It would be a six-day journey across the dry seabed, chancing sandstorms. They wouldn't have been able to carry rations for the longer routes.

And, anyway. The sooner they secured the valley for themselves, the better.

But of course it wasn't that easy. )

okteiviakom: ([neu warpaint blodreina] leadership)
They'd been down in the bunker for six years. They'd made it past the dark year, and although it had left many wounds that had never properly healed, they had survived it. The ground was supposed to be survivable again, by now. They hadn't found a way out of the bunker yet, but Wonkru was alive.

And that was enough.

There had been no more Osleya for many years, by this time. They called her Blodreina now. Because that was who she was now. The red queen. Octavia had pushed all her personal wants (dreams, hopes) aside and focused on keeping Wonkru going, making them strong, making sure they'd be ready if -- when they made it back to the ground.

Her focus was laser-sharp, and unyielding.

(Because it was all she had.)

Niylah's locket was still around her neck, but her bracelet lay abandoned in one of the drawers of her desk. Nou finrona nowe, jos Blodreina. She had armor that had been made especially for her. Parts of it had been dyed red, to recall the blood of Wonkru's enemies.

The bunker had no commander. It had her. )

Wonkru had been living in the bunker for two years. Not comfortably, not always harmoniously, but they'd lived, and they'd done so together as one clan. Sometimes that was enough. The fighting pits weren't pretty, weren't something Octavia thought she would have sanctioned on the ground, but they were necessary. For population control, for unity, for a grim reminder of what their enemy was.

See content warning below. )

The days in the bunker threatened to all blur together. After the first week, Octavia had taken to keeping count of them on a little pad in her office. One short line, one day.

People had been calling her Osleya since day one.

'The champion'.

But Octavia wanted to do anything but lead them. She'd won the conclave and put them all here, wasn't that enough? Indra kept dressing her up in commander garb, the coat, the forehead emblem, but it felt wrong, it wasn't her. Her blood was red and it always would be. The clothes weren't fooling anyone, no matter how many times Indra led her to meetings with the delegates from the old clans. Especially when Gaia wouldn't throw her support behind her.

And all Octavia really wanted to do was spar with Miller, spend time with Niylah, try and make this her new normal. Try and accept this would be where they'd be for the next five years, the same as everyone else.

Her phone had been badly damaged during the conclave. )

okteiviakom: ([neu] open)
Octavia was exhausted.

She was sitting outside the bunker door with Indra. The closed bunker door, the locked bunker door. Skaikru had betrayed them all. Led by Clarke and Jaha, they'd locked themselves in the bunker while the conclave was still going on.

Bellamy was down there with them. She'd spoken to him over the walkies, told him she'd won, that she'd announced they'd share the bunker. He hadn't gone down there willingly: they'd grabbed him off the street and dragged him down. And now he and Abby were their best hope at getting the damn door open again. The black rain was keeping the clans in their safe zones around Polis for now, while Kane and Gaia and the Flamekeeper scouts were stalling everyone who'd been in the tower during the conclave.

It was right as the clans were coming in, right as Octavia was sure they'd have to face the music, that the door finally opened.

She hadn't hugged Bellamy as tightly since before they'd left Fandom.

(But when he said, "I love you so much," she still said nothing.)

The next twenty four hours were a blur. )

okteiviakom: ([neu warpaint] I mean it)
Wasn't really a war Octavia found in Polis. It was a conclave, like the ones they used to use for choosing a new commander. One warrior per clan, in a fight to the death. No guns. The clan whose champion was the last person standing would take the fallout shelter, a bunker underneath Polis, built by a doomsday cult before the first Praimfaya. Other clans would perish.

The timeline of the oncoming apocalypse had shifted. They didn't have months left, they had days. And Skaikru had no fighters trained in hand-to-hand combat, no champion with a fraction of a chance of winning against the best of the other clans.

Enter Octavia.

The Flamekeepers were presiding over this, the final conclave. )

[ooc: NFB, NFI. Taken from The 100 S4 episode 10. Part 1 of 2. Surprisingly no violence in this one!]
okteiviakom: ([neu] not again)
Octavia was trying.

They'd been at Ilian's farm for about a week, and she was trying. Trying to learn, trying to help. Trying not to think about how her natural urge to address the sheep as strikon kept making her think of her Fandom habit of always speaking Trig to animals. Trying to not be the person she'd been just a week ago.

Trying to fit in.

Even if it was just with one person, this time.

Ilian was good to her. Kind, patient. During the daytime, they worked on the land and cared for the animals, and he taught her about both, and she did her best to listen attentively, to do things as he said, as he did. To be the kind of person he needed to have around on his farm. And when they slept, he wrapped her up in his arms, her back pressed snugly against his chest. She tried to tell herself it was for his own benefit, that he needed the comfort because he'd just lost his family. But she knew that wasn't it.

Things on the farm were peaceful.

But Octavia wasn't. She was trying, but all she was getting was frustrated.

"Are you tilling the soil or stabbing it?" Ilian asked from where he was sowing seeds into the rows that were ready. It was getting to be late in the day, and they'd been working on this patch of land for what felt like most of it.

Octavia stuck the hoe back in the dirt - with a little more force than was necessary, yes. "You know this is dumb, right?" she asked, with enough of a complaint in her tone to elicit a quiet huff from him. "We'll all be dead before anything grows."

"The earth survived Praimfaya once," Ilian replied. "It will again." He sounded so sure of it. "We do this for those who come after us." Another huff. Was he trying not to laugh at her technique? Probably, since he was coming over now. "Let me show you."

But right then, someone called out his name. They hadn't had any visitors in the time Octavia had been here. )

It didn't take Octavia long at all to realize she was being followed. The woods were quiet, and he wasn't being as sneaky as he maybe thought he was. She let him tail her and Helios for a bit, before dismounting and hiding behind the trees until he'd crept closer. Close enough for her to jump him, put a knife to his throat.

Why are you following me? )

The relief offered by Pike's death was short-lived. Octavia still wanted Lincoln back.

In the end, the key to coming up with a new plan was that they ran into Roan, the king of Azgeda, on their way to Arkadia. Or, really, it turned out he'd been tracking Clarke for a while in the hopes of securing the Flame for his people.

They dragged him back to Arkadia with them. Convinced him to help, because now that Polis had fallen to ALIE, they needed him to get into the city and capture the false commander, Ontari, from the middle of thousands of people whose minds were linked.

They left Jasper, Harper, Raven and Monty behind to do the kind of computer stuff Octavia wouldn't even pretend to understand. The rest of them went to Polis, and split up: Roan took Clarke in through the main gate, pretending he'd taken her as his prisoner, while the rest of them snuck in to one of the buildings overlooking the square in the middle of Polis, right by the tower where the commanders lived.

The whole city was creepy. )

In the end, it was Octavia, Bellamy, Clarke and Jasper who set out to find Luna and her clan. The map Lincoln had drawn in his book showed them the way. That was, until they made it to the end of the map and all they found was a stretch of shoreline with a circle of pillars made of rocks stacked on top of each other.

And nothing else. No boat, no people, nothing.

Octavia went right to the edge of the water, dropped to her knees against the rocks, and screamed.

They decided to make camp on the shore. )

On the Ground, no high point lasted for long.

Just about as soon as Octavia and Indra were close enough to Arkadia to be back in radio range, Miller's voice came through, hurried, like it wasn't the first time he'd done so in the last while. Pike had captured Kane, charging him with treason, and was planning to execute him. Only Miller and Harper remained free in Arkadia.

Before they'd finished drafting up their plans to break Kane and Lincoln and Sinclair out, an update came in: Pike had sentenced all of them to death.

And Bellamy wanted Octavia to meet him at the dropship after nightfall.

So to the dropship Octavia went. )

The journey to Polis wasn't a comfortable one. Not when you spent it bound and gagged and tossed over the back of a horse, like Octavia had. But she was learning to welcome the discomfort, almost crave it. She hurt all over, every step the horse took on uneven ground making the side of her head throb, and her ribs ache when the phone in the inside pocket of her jacket (yes, it was dead, but she couldn't, wouldn't let it go) pressed into them.

And all she could think was, Good.

In the end, Semet didn't get what he wanted. He presented her to Lexa as a war criminal, brought there to bear witness to the crimes of her people. )
