The Deck of the Cape Rouge, Wednesday Afternoon

Octavia was starting to feel like she was on a slightly more even keel, post-Haven. Things with Duke were still... maybe a little off, but, they were working on that, bit by bit. And while she hadn't really managed to unpack everything with her therapist yet, she'd at least opened up about some of it.

Things were moving forward.

And this afternoon, Octavia herself was moving. Specifically, on her yoga mat rolled out on the deck of the Rouge. It wasn't super warm out, but that was fine.

It felt like she could breathe.

"I don't know how she found any of that, but I am going to destroy every last scrap of anything anywhere on the internet," Lucifer promised Octavia, eyes gleaming red, and--

Oh.

Right.

It was Octavia.

He cleared his throat. "Are you all right?"

Octavia was halfway into turning away before she remembered the one thing she'd learned from a lot of the drama lately.

"I need a second," she ground out, flatly, before turning the rest of the way and going back to her mat - this time to roll it back up.

"No yoga, then," Duke muttered, coming back up to the ship (and keeping an eye on the woman to make sure she was actually leaving and he didn't have to call the troopers to haul her away). "The fuck was that all about?"

"Something private," Lucifer said, watching Octavia go. "That's very important to Octavia. And... fragile."

That fragile was probably why Octavia felt the urge to find cover, right now. So once the mat was secure, she got up and turned to head down into the ship.

"I'll get the rum out."

Her privacy had ended up with enough of a dent as it was.

"Ah," Duke said. "Yep. That's -- good plan." He looked back at Lucifer. "You have your flask? Because I think I'm going to need some booze now, too."

He was not their good little -- whatever the fuck she'd called him. Dammit.

Lucifer sighed. He took his flask from his inner pocket and held it out for Duke.

"Well, that was horrifying."

Octavia made it down, put her yoga mat aside --

And went to pour essentially pints of rum to set out for the squirrels.

(Maybe at some point she would notice how her cheeks were burning.)

Duke took it and took a long sip.

"Do I want to know what she was talking about?"

Lucifer sighed. He reached up to press his fingers to his eyelids. "One of the best things about this relationship is how none of us have to be everything for one another, because together, we're enough," he said. "Octavia sometimes has needs we know you wouldn't be comfortable with, so we..." He dropped his hand. "We do that on our nights. And it's taken her a long time to become comfortable with herself about it."

He had promised Octavia he wouldn't give Duke any details. So he wasn't.

". . . Shit. And that woman, what, knew? What is she, a transformed squirrel?"

Fuck, there was a chilling thought.

"I don't know, but we should find out," Lucifer said. "I don't want Octavia retreating into herself because she feels she isn't safe."

"Definitely not. If she comes back here I'll fucking tase her."

How was that for a 'subbiest sub'.

"Good." Lucifer took a deep breath, and finally looked at him. "And you? Are you all right?"

Duke shrugged. "I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?"

Because a stranger just called him a sub and implied that he existed only to serve other people, maybe.

"Well, everything about that was disturbing," Lucifer pointed out. "Not just whatever she was saying about Octavia."

"Are you okay?" Duke asked. "You looked like you might go all Devil Face at her there for a minute."

"It's just. Important to me," Lucifer said, a little helpless. "That Octavia feels safe."

“I know,” Duke assured him. “She does too.” He reached over to tug Lucifer into a gentle hug. “And we love you for it.”

Octavia had realized how flushed her face was, by now. She just hadn't figured out anything she could do about it: the thing roiling inside her making it happen was still there.

(Funny how she'd thought she could keep her shame harnessed to only be accessed when she wanted to.)

She'd figured out, though, that she should probably bring one of the ridiculous things of rum outside, so that was what she was doing, now. Setting it by the entrance - and not taking a single step further out.

She almost called out to them, before the hug.

Lucifer hugged Duke back-- just for a moment. He wasn't the one who needed-- reassurance right now.

They did.

He cleared his throat, and... spotted Octavia right over Duke's shoulder. "She's back," he murmured.

Duke looked back at her and flicked her a tiny smile. "Hey, snogon."

Octavia wasn't moving.

"Are you coming in?"

Good job only sounding a little strained, there, Tavi.

Lucifer pulled away from Duke a fraction, so he could shoot the man a quick look of that-seems-for-the-best.

"Yes, of course."

Duke returned the same look, and pulled slowly away so he could head towards Octavia.

"We can close things up. Hang out in the bedroom or the pillow room or something, if you want."

He wasn't' sure if her arm was up for the sauna yet.
