Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Night

It was Sunday night. There had been dinner: some nice takeout from some place on the mainland, followed by an even nicer dessert from some other place on the mainland. Panna cotta with fresh fruit was getting up there on Octavia's list of favorites.

But she had other favorite things, too.

And that was probably why they were already halfway up the stairs.

"Was that passionfruit on purpose?"

"Of course," Lucifer said softly.

He kissed the top of her head. "I love you so much."

"I love you, too."

These freakouts didn't change that, at least.

"Do you know what just happened?" Lucifer asked softly.

Octavia's shrug was vague, but she tried to answer anyway.

"Just... lost all my words."

Lucifer nodded.

"Was it the scarf?"

"No," Octavia murmured, with a tiny, slow shake of her head. "I don't think so."

That would've been way too simple.

"I don't think it was any one thing."

[my_own_advocate]

"I see," Lucifer said. He fell silent, not wanting to badger her.

Octavia didn't feel badgered so far, at least. She would rather figure this out to keep it from happening again.

Not that she had a good idea for even where to start. "I don't know," she muttered, after a moment. "Maybe you were too nice."

"I should have stayed rougher?" Lucifer asked, softly.

"Maybe."

And that --

"That feels wrong to say."

"This isn't about what's wrong or right," Lucifer murmured. "It's, quite literally, about what you desire."

Octavia swallowed. "Then maybe you should have stayed rougher," she murmured, looping back to agreeing with that. "I wasn't..."

She trailed off, trying to catch a thought almost in her grasp, to put it to words.

"It's like I wasn't ready to make choices for myself."

"I'm sorry," Lucifer murmured. He kissed her forehead. "I'll remember that."

"I don't know if that helps," Octavia muttered. "All of these times are different."

"It helps me understand you a little better," Lucifer said softly. "These scenes work when we are in tune."

Octavia made a vague noise low in her throat.

But it wasn't disagreement.

"That's sort of how I ended up feeling," she said. "Like I was... off-beat." With him, yes, but also with herself.

Lucifer nodded slowly. "When I was actually the one who fell out of the rhythm," he murmured.

"It's not anyone's fault," Octavia mumbled. "I left you guessing."

Not that she'd chosen to go all non-verbal.

Lucifer sighed.

He hugged her a little tighter. "Well, it's done now."

Octavia tried to burrow even more firmly against his chest.

And mumbled, quietly, "Moba."

"Don't," Lucifer said, stroking her hair, letting her burrow as much as she wanted. "Let's just take a few minutes."

"Okay."

So she just burrowed, and breathed.

"Ai hod yu in," Lucifer whispered, closing his eyes.

[okteiviakom]

"Ai hod yu in seintaim."

It was quiet, but she couldn't let it go unsaid.

Lucifer let out a soft huff, and managed a small smile.

He wrapped his arms around her just a bit more securely.
