Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Night

It was Sunday night. There had been dinner: some nice takeout from some place on the mainland, followed by an even nicer dessert from some other place on the mainland. Panna cotta with fresh fruit was getting up there on Octavia's list of favorites.

But she had other favorite things, too.

And that was probably why they were already halfway up the stairs.

"Was that passionfruit on purpose?"

"I don't know if that helps," Octavia muttered. "All of these times are different."

"It helps me understand you a little better," Lucifer said softly. "These scenes work when we are in tune."

Octavia made a vague noise low in her throat.

But it wasn't disagreement.

"That's sort of how I ended up feeling," she said. "Like I was... off-beat." With him, yes, but also with herself.

Lucifer nodded slowly. "When I was actually the one who fell out of the rhythm," he murmured.

"It's not anyone's fault," Octavia mumbled. "I left you guessing."

Not that she'd chosen to go all non-verbal.

Lucifer sighed.

He hugged her a little tighter. "Well, it's done now."

Octavia tried to burrow even more firmly against his chest.

And mumbled, quietly, "Moba."

"Don't," Lucifer said, stroking her hair, letting her burrow as much as she wanted. "Let's just take a few minutes."

"Okay."

So she just burrowed, and breathed.

"Ai hod yu in," Lucifer whispered, closing his eyes.

[okteiviakom]

"Ai hod yu in seintaim."

It was quiet, but she couldn't let it go unsaid.

Lucifer let out a soft huff, and managed a small smile.

He wrapped his arms around her just a bit more securely.

Octavia kept leaning, her arms around him a little less tight than his were around her, but staying there.

At least her body seemed to have calmed down, evn if her mind seeemed most interested in looping in circles around itself.

Time went on for a while.

"Better?" Lucifer asked finally, his arms still wrapped tight around her.

"A little," Octavia murmured.

She pressed a quiet, light kiss against his chest. Just the one.

"Is there anything you need?"

[okteiviakom]

Long silence.

And then, finally: "Water." Simple, basic, physical. It was an easier need to pinpoint than most.

"All right," Lucifer said. He kissed her forehead, and then peeled away from her. Slowly.

Octavia was equally slow about sliding her arms away from around him.

It left her sitting there kind of like a lump. She'd straighten up in a moment.

Probably.

Lucifer was moving a little fast regardless.

He sped into the bathroom and was back within a minute, holding the glass of water out for her. "There you are."

Octavia had not straightened up.

But she reached out to take the water, and looked up at his face for the first time since... well, since she'd flipped out. Or whatever you wanted to call it. "Thanks."

Lucifer's mouth curved. A little bit.

He sat down next to her on the bed, and slid his arm back around her waist.

The only reason Octavia didn't tilt her head against his shoulder was because she needed it upright to drink her water.

Which she did. In slow sips.

"I'd honestly expected us to hit something like this sooner," Lucifer admitted, after a moment.

Octavia glanced over, after a beat. Still holding the glass up near her mouth.

"Why's that?"
