The Cape Rouge, Thursday Evening
At least things on the boat had settled down in all their post-trauma enough that Octavia no longer felt like going out into the preserve would be seen as a slight against someone, or fleeing, or something else like that. But of course, now that she'd used most of her Thursday on finally getting some preserve time in, it felt like she'd maybe overdone it, because when she got back to the ship she felt exhausted. Maybe it was all the target practice, or the walking around afterwards, or --
Or just the underlying exhaustion of having been through some rough times, recently? But no. Definitely one of those other things, not that.
Anyway, she'd gotten back, and changed into some comfier clothes (fully aware that she could probably also have used a shower), and then just sort of... slumped onto the bed. She'd get up in a moment, honest. Aaany time now.
Any time.
[ooc: Open for those that live here, and no of course this level of tired isn't method RP. Of course not.]

Duke had not actually gone to the diner, today.
Instead, he'd spent a good chunk of it swimming and puttering around the boat. He smelled like saltwater when he came in and flopped onto the bed next to her.
"How was your day?"

He wasn't there yet. He stepped onto the boat with some large bags of groceries. And some Thai take-out, to share.

In the bedroom, Octavia was nodding faintly. "I guess I should've waited a little before getting the tattoo." They both knew she couldn't have though, probably. "At least there's still... just wading."

He had maybe tried to improvise a wrap or two in his early days of getting tattoos.
He caught a whiff of the takeout Thai and chuckled.
"I think our mother hen has arrived with some provisions."

(Also she was hoping to make Duke laugh.)

Had to set those bags down on the table and rummage around for the stuff that had to go in the fridge, first.

“Sounds tasty,” he called back. He even mostly meant it.

"I'm pretty sure he didn't even blink," she murmured.
no subject
"Should I bring these up to the bedroom?" he called, as he shoved groceries into the fridge.

Instead, she felt the need to bring one slow hand up to brush Duke's hair back a bit.

He smiled at both of them. "Hungry?"

"Could eat," she agreed softly.

His hands now freed, he shrugged out of his jacket.

"Thanks, babe," he said, turning the smile on Lucifer again. "I promise to try not to get food on the sheets."

Her stomach rumbled, she focused on that.

After that sort-of weeklong fight, he wanted to lean into the reassurance and reciprocate it.

Using chopsticks was serious and focus-consuming business. (So was battling whatever this feeling was she was having. Rejection that made this touch feel like an afterthought, maybe.)

"Tavi went out into the woods. I was in the water. We basically spent the day in our elements."

Here in the present, with her head not only figuratively down, Octavia startled at Lucifer's hand coming near her face, pulling back on a reflex.
