Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Evening

Tomorrow, they'd be home in the Bahamas again, most likely. But right now... Octavia and Lucifer were exploring the latter's old mansion. In Octavia's case, with a glass of wine in hand, and a sort of a permanent mix of amusement and curiosity on her face.

"Oh, there's a lot that hasn't been done yet, isn't there?" she said, peering into the living room. "Weird."

Octavia couldn't help her smile. It came from the same place as her need to go sit in the preserve, this morning.

"Really?" she murmured. "Maybe we should."

"We can find a little... cottage in the middle of the woods," Lucifer said, his arm sliding more tightly around her. "Go for walks every day. You and Duke can go do your mad foraging and fishing bit."

He knew her so well.

"You spoil me," Octavia teased, pressing a soft kiss to his jaw.

(Of course, she could have just lived in the woods. But she'd accepted long ago that that wasn't going to happen.)

"You deserve it," Lucifer said softly. "I missed the smell of trees in your hair."

"There's trees in the Bahamas," Octavia said, a little quieter.

They just weren't the right kind of trees.

"Not quite, though, mm?" Lucifer said. "Not ones that smell like this."

[okteiviakom]

"Not quite," Octavia echoed in agreement, ducking her head a little, nuzzling at the top of his chest. (Never too old to hide a little.) "Guess there'll always be something special about the woods near where... I first landed on the Ground."

She'd visited the Lincoln Memorial many times. She knew exactly where they were in relation to old Trikru lands.

"We could also go there," Lucifer offered. "I just thought the Black Forest would be, well. Emptier."

"No," Octavia murmured. "It's close enough. In spirit."

And those woods were more of a special occasion kind of place. A ritual, more than a holiday.

Lucifer nodded slowly. "Good," he said. "I haven't made you Black Forest Cake in entirely too long, see."

Octavia managed a soft snort. "Oh, is that what this is actually about?" she teased, happy to get out of whatever muddy waters her thoughts had been sliding towards. "Themed baked goods?"

"You know I love a good bake-off," Lucifer teased softly. "Have to do something to compensate for all the fish Duke keeps serving you."

"You know I love his fish and your cakes equally."

[my_own_advocate]

"So you must have them in equal amounts," Lucifer said brightly.

Snort.

"You're a ridiculous man."

He'd probably gotten that the previous thousand times she'd said so.

"I just want to ensure you're as happy and fat as you'll let yourself be," Lucifer teased.

"Are you trying to make sure there's as much of me to love as possible?"

[my_own_advocate]

"You know I do love getting a full grip," Lucifer said, grinning. "... and it's healthier, at our age."

[okteiviakom]

"How convenient for you," Octavia rasped. (Never mind that she'd managed to come back from Skyring with a fuller figure already.) She booped his nose. "Probably helps you see me easier, too."

"I can see you just fine from here," Lucifer argued, sliding his fingers up along one of the tattoos on her arm. "It's not that bad."

Sure.

"Mm-hmm," Octavia hummed, like she was humoring him. "Whatever you say, shoga."

Lucifer sighed. "It's not my fault my body has decided to throw in a sympathy ailment just because everyone's knees are getting worse."

"I love it," Octavia replied, freely and easily. "For one, we finally have some physical advantage over you."

Lucifer groaned. "Of course you do," he muttered.

"What?" Octavia asked, clearly holding back a chuckle. "I like seeing further than you do!"
