Lucifer's Mansion, Very Late Friday Night

And then some texts with Duke.

And then Lucifer's house, and specifically Lucifer's bed, where Octavia was now catching her breath and brushing her hair out of her face with a slightly lazy and uncoordinated hand, flopped down on her back.

"I'm not his girlfriend."

Sorry. For all that it was mild, it was practically reflexive.

"Snogon," Lucifer corrected lightly. "Apologies."

"Better," Octavia murmured. "And that's not... It doesn't mean I think that's all I am. It's not really about that at all."

[my_own_advocate]

"Then what is it about?" Lucifer asked. "Because that whole 'such and such is everything' thing has always seemed rather reductive."

"It just means... that he matters."

More than anything.

"You could just say that," Lucifer pointed out gently.

"It's not the same."

It was very complicated, as he could surely tell by all the contradictions.

"Mm, there are more things that matter to you," Lucifer said. "There is that."

"I was cut off from him for seven years," Octavia murmured. "That changes -- things."

She didn't have a better word for it.

"I know you know that."

[my_own_advocate]

"It has a way of showing you what's truly important," Lucifer agreed softly.

Octavia made a little noise in her throat that sounded like an objection. To what? Even she didn't know.

She was just trying to burrow further against his chest.

"Did I get it wrong?" Lucifer asked, his hand settling on her back.

Happy to facilitate the burrowing.

[okteiviakom]

"No." That came out extremely mumbled, with all the burrowing. "Just -- different right than I was thinking of."

[my_own_advocate]

"Tell me what you were thinking of, then," Lucifer murmured. "Take your time."

[okteiviakom]

"I don't know if I want to," Octavia admitted.

Very quietly.

"Feels like a... Pandora's box situation. Maybe."

"Why?" Lucifer asked. "What are you afraid of?"

[okteiviakom]

... What a question. There was a long silence, where Octavia just kept pressing herself against his chest. Not by shifting around at all, just a steady pressure.

And when she spoke, well.

"I am not afraid."

It didn't actually sound like she was replying to him, there. It was a little too under her breath for that, for one thing.

Lucifer tightened his arms around her, though the confused look on his face was evident from his, "All right," even if she couldn't see it.

"Do I have to talk about it?"

That was -- well, not louder. But clearer.

"You don't have to do anything you don't want to," Lucifer said softly. "But I'm here if you do."

[okteiviakom]

"I just... keep not thinking about what that does," Octavia muttered after a moment. "That we got so far out of sync."

[my_own_advocate]

"You had a great deal of experiences that he... didn't," Lucifer said quietly. "Dark, ugly things that changed you."

[okteiviakom]

Octavia nodded against his chest. "And not just that," she muttered. "He's thirty-four, and for him, it's been... less than eighteen months since he even met me."

Give or take a few months thanks to Haven.

"And you have years of a lost relationship in your head?" Lucifer guessed.

[okteiviakom]

Octavia nodded again. "I lost him for seven times the time he's even known me."

And she'd spent almost all of her adult life missing him.

Her voice dropped quieter again. "So when I say he's my everything, do I mean him or the ghost I lived with for so much of my life?"
