Lucifer's Mansion, Sunday Night

It had been another weird week. But enough of the weird - both from this week, and the ones before it - had apparently passed for Octavia and Lucifer to meet up at the house again on this Sunday evening for another date night.

The previously unfurnished room on the second floor was no longer unfurnished. Octavia didn't know whether Lucifer had noticed yet, especially since she'd left the door closed after she'd been done with it. She didn't know whether it would come into play yet, anyway.

And either way, they were downstairs, sitting down properly at the dining table. A gesture towards things Lucifer liked. And Octavia had cooked, even if the main had been just a very simple salad, which they were just about finished with. The equally simple dessert was still waiting in the fridge.

"Maybe one of these weeks you could give me a lesson." A beat. "You know, for cooking. We could make a thing of it."

[ooc: For, you guessed it, that guy.]

"One of those sort-of contradictions that work," Octavia agreed. Her hands still working to soothe his shoulders a little. "It's fun. Being... gentle, but not."

"It did hurt for a bit," Lucifer said wrily. "But I rallied."

"You rallied really well," Octavia replied. "But also I have to say you brought it on yourself. Shouldn't have been so nice and obedient and pretty coming the first time."

Lucifer laughed. "Should I have been more stoic?" he said. "Would that have saved me?"

"There was nothing that could've saved you."

Almost as if the game had been rigged against him.

"I don't think you have it in you to be stoic in a situation like that, anyway."

[my_own_advocate]

Or most situations on Earth. And in Hell, well, only if 'barely restrained rage' counted as stoicism.

"Mm. So you were toying with me."

"Lucifer, I had a giant frame delivered behind your back," Octavia retorted, as one hand crept up to cup his cheek, "of course I was toying with you."

"All one big scheme to force me into your hands, hm?"

[okteiviakom]

"I think there was only a little bit of forcing involved, don't you?"

[my_own_advocate]

"A little bit of pressure," Lucifer said brightly. "Just the way I like it."

Octavia snorted, and reached up to steal a little peck.

Then watched him, for a beat. Something a little more wry in her eyes.

"Not all the pressure really... worked, though."

[my_own_advocate]

"Hm?" Lucifer hummed, curious, tilting his head.

[okteiviakom]

"Tried something that didn't work," Octavia replied, a little softer. "In words?"

[my_own_advocate]

"Ah," Lucifer said. He'd... lost track of that. He sucked in a breath. "Yes, wrong time, that... one."

Octavia gave a small nod. Left him a little space to say more if he wanted to, but had no intention of pushing.

Lucifer hadn't really had time to think about why that had gone wrong. So he swallowed, and racked his brain, certainly-- looking like he was thinking about it.

"You know how some notes in music simply don't play well together?" he said. "They both resonate deeply within you, but when you play it at the same time it's-- noise. A touch too much."

Octavia nodded again. "I get it," she murmured. "I've had it happen to me, too." When he'd tried something that didn't entirely fit where her head was at, creating something more jarring than intended. "It's okay, and I'm sorry."

"It's all right, we got out of it just fine," Lucifer said softly. "I suppose it hit me somewhere rather vulnerable." He glanced at the wall. "And I think I've shown I'm quite happy to be physically vulnerable when you're in charge, but I think emotional may be a touch out of bounds. At least like that."

Octavia took advantage of his look away to lean a little closer.

... Okay, against his chest. Fully.

"I know that now."

No better time to touch her more, then, hm? To wrap her up in his arms. "But I love you," he said, "And you handled it well."

His arms were good.

Hers followed suit soon enough.

"Well, we've talked so much about how to handle it if I'm not handling something..."

"You thought you'd apply that knowledge?" Lucifer murmured. "Clever."

[okteiviakom]

"I thought it might help us learn," Octavia murmured.

[my_own_advocate]

"Bit by bit," Lucifer agreed softly.

Octavia pressed a little kiss to the top of his chest.

"It's just important," she muttered. "Getting past it."
