Summer's voicemail about the painting had come in yesterday. It was the first message from Fandom since they'd taken off before the holidays. And it felt a little like they were being called back. Like it was time to re-join real life again.

But not yet. Not just yet.

For now, Octavia had a picked a stretch of beach - not a particular one, just a nice one - to wade out into the water from. She was feeling the sun on her skin, some very gentle waves against her legs.

And just breathed.

"Would you rather I just guess?"

His mouth brushed over the join of her shoulder and her neck.

Octavia gave another tiny sigh.

"I think you're a good guesser."

Lucifer chuckled.

His hands slid over her stomach. "I try," he said, lifting his head so he could kiss her jaw, instead. "But you are covered in sunscreen."

"Because you made sure I was," Octavia agreed, finally turning her head so she could steal a kiss of her own. "Chof."

"Let it never be said I don't value your health above all else," Lucifer teased gently.

"My health, or everything you stand to gain from it?" Octavia teased back, pressing a kiss to his cheek.

"Your health," Lucifer affirmed, "The gains are number two on the value list."

[okteiviakom]

"If you say so," Octavia rasped, but lightly, covering his hands with her arms.

Lucifer smiled, falling silent for a moment.

He just... wanted to feel the breeze, and her body against his, and the warmth.

Octavia seemed similarly inclined, settling against him with her head resting against his again.

Content to just try and be for a moment, much like she'd tried to in the water just moments ago.

"I do like the quiet," Lucifer said, some endless amount of time later.

"It's a different kind of quiet, here," Octavia murmured, in agreement. "Familiar."

To her.

"Unfamiliar to me," Lucifer mused. "I'd thought I'd be more bored."

[okteiviakom]

"Duke's mostly forgotten what clothes are, here," Octavia replied with a touch of something wry. "You weren't going to be bored."

"It is a nice view," Lucifer allowed, glancing at the water.

[okteiviakom]

"It's very pretty."

Worth opening her eyes again, even.

"He's in his element."

[my_own_advocate]

"Quite literally," Lucifer agreed. "I'm a bit worried one day he's going to become one with the ocean."

Octavia shook her head, but only slightly.

Gently.

"He would end up missing us too much," she murmured. "I hope, anyway."

"So do I," Lucifer said, mouth curving further. "I've rather gotten used to us piling up together every night."

Certainly here, where everything felt so carefree.

"Much better than sleeping apart," Octavia murmured. "For one thing."

[my_own_advocate]

"Yes," Lucifer said, hugging her a bit closer-- in as much as that was even possible. "That was... it was not enjoyable."

[okteiviakom]

"I know, and I'm sorry," Octavia replied, her fingers rubbing at his arm. No reason. "I hope we've been making up for it."

[my_own_advocate]

"You don't have to be sorry. It wasn't you," Lucifer said, closing his eyes. "And you have been making up for it. More than."

"Good," Octavia replied, turning her head enough for a little nuzzle at his cheek. "Good."

"I never realized before just how important it was to me," Lucifer murmured. "Waking up together."
