The Cape Rouge, Somewhere Along The East Coast, Wednesday Afternoon

Yesterday had been a mess.

But at the end of it, once it had become clear Octavia could not, would not be sleeping in the bedroom, Lucifer had dragged some bedding out onto the galley floor for her. And then he'd stayed there with her.

And after almost three days, she'd finally slept more than the occasional moment of nodding off wherever she'd been sitting. She still felt like she'd been tossing and turning for most of the night, but she had slept. When she opened her eyes now that it was morning, she felt some of the haze of the past couple of days was gone. Or at least had abated for the time being.

She would take it.

Lucifer had been sleeping fine these past few days, and he had slept mostly fine this night, even if their spot on the floor was a lot less comfortable than Duke's bed.

The 'mostly' fine came more from staying awake for long minutes at a time the few times he'd woken up during the night, just watching Octavia, to make sure she was still there.

And so this was also the rare occasion where he was already awake.

Watching her.

"Morning."

Octavia's face turned slowly towards him. She didn't seem at all surprised.

"Morning," she replied quietly.

"How are you feeling?" Lucifer asked, voice quiet.

[okteiviakom]

"Tired," Octavia muttered, turning the rest of the way towards him, rolling onto her side.

'More sane than yesterday' might have been apt, too.

"Well," Lucifer said, reaching out gingerly to touch her cheek, "Lucky thing we don't have anywhere to be."

Well. As long as they weren't running out of food.

Octavia's eyes closed. And her face tilted just slightly into the touch.

"We wouldn't get there even if we did."

Yeah, that part was finally sinking in.

"We would," Lucifer said. He flattened his palm against her cheek. "But taking the Rouge with us will be a problem."

Octavia's voice grew softer, though not any louder.

"We can't leave her."

[my_own_advocate]

"No," Lucifer agreed, just as soft.

Octavia's eyes opened again. Found his.

"Then what do we do?"

[my_own_advocate]

"I was... going to give Duke a few more days to magically reappear," Lucifer said slowly.

He'd only been focused enough to think about it since yesterday, and, well.

She'd swallowed up a lot of his yesterday.

"Oh," Octavia said.

Because she had nothing better to say. Nothing better to offer.

"I can get groceries," Lucifer said, after a short pause, "So we won't starve, at least."

Something in Octavia's expression tightened, just slightly, before she forced it to smooth out again.

And said, simply, "Good."

Something like a wince passed over Lucifer's in return.

"And if he's not here by the weekend, we'll-- figure something else out."

Octavia exhaled a long sigh as her eyes closed again.

"Have you tried Portalocity?"

She hadn't. On account of how she'd smashed up her phone.

Lucifer let out a frustrated sigh of his own and dropped his hand. "They don't deliver 'aquatic vehicle portals' out here."

That wasn't really what Octavia had been thinking about.

"What about service to Haven, in general?"

[my_own_advocate]

"Apparently there was a temporal anomaly on Sunday, but still no service."

[okteiviakom]

Another sigh.

"Fuck."

Well, what else was there to say to that?

[my_own_advocate]

"Well," Lucifer ventured, "At least that makes the Haven theory more likely, as opposed to... Duke getting eaten by some kind of transdimensional monster overnight or something..."

A pause.

"Fuck, yes."

"Haven is the monster," Octavia rasped.

And slowly shifted closer to him.

"I am beginning to develop a grudge against Maine," Lucifer agreed, sliding his arm... carefully around her shoulders.

Just gave Octavia more reason to press against his chest.

"I'm already there."

She'd actually been to Haven, and apart from a couple of people, she'd found very few redeemable qualities.

Lucifer pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Understandably."
