The Samsara, Port of Fandom, Saturday Morning

Last night had been okay. The margaritas had been tasty, and Octavia had acquiesced to Lucifer's request of not letting him go home alone by dragging him back to her boat with her at the end of the night. She'd passed out hard not too long after because, again, tasty margaritas.

Of course, now it was morning, and she was finally stirring again.

And the muffled little groan was almost immediate.

Goddamn margaritas.

"Thankfully," Lucifer said, smiling against her hair, "I quite like your bratty little mouth."

"Not a brat."

Well.

Not really with anyone else but him?

"I beg to differ," Lucifer said, letting his fingers slide up and down the tattoo on her shoulder.

Octavia sighed quietly. Sometimes she was very easy when it came to soft touches.

"So what do you think makes me a brat?"

"Oh, you know exactly what I mean," Lucifer said, and nuzzled her hair. "You like trying to one-up me. In the most pedantic way you can think of."

"I don't know if that's true."

[my_own_advocate]

"Too bad," Lucifer said, chuckling softly. "Because you are bratty. And beautiful. And, hm, bold." He kissed the top of her head. "Occasionally belligerent."

"You handle my belligerence just fine," Octavia murmured, nuzzling his shoulder.

It was why she threw it at him, specifically.

"You may be the sweetest belligerent woman I've ever had in my life," Lucifer teased. (Which said more about the other belligerent women in his life, really.) "That helps."

Octavia had broken a bottle over his head, so. Yes, she figured it said less about her than about the others.

"Yeah, well," she murmured. And quieter still: "Thank you."

No, she wasn't thinking about the bottle incident.

Maze practically made stabbing him in the back a full-time job.

"There's nothing to thank me for," Lucifer said, quieter.

"I know." That was more of a sigh than anything. "Let me do it anyway."

"If you insist."

[okteiviakom]

"I do."

Her fingers were just brushing back and forth against his shoulder now, and she was watching them move.

"Last time, here... That was good, too."

[my_own_advocate]

"Quite different," Lucifer mused, relaxing a bit against the pillow. "But still good, yes."

"I still don't understand it."

Maybe she was overthinking again.

(Or maybe, you know, the crying jag that followed had kind of thrown her off.)

"Do you want to tell me how you felt at the time?" Lucifer asked, his hand sliding up to play with her hair.

"During or after?"

Those were two distinct things. But she was mostly asking just as a tool for gathering her thoughts.

"Let's start with during," Lucifer murmured.

[okteiviakom]

"Angry," Octavia muttered, after a moment. "Only -- not really? Or like a part of me was. Whatever part it is that really just... doesn't want to have anyone decide anything for me."

Or to bow to anyone.

"But you still let me," Lucifer said, his fingertips skimming along her cheek.

"Maybe that part's not in charge."

Anymore.

"It felt like letting you and not letting you at the same time."

"Until the end," Lucifer mused.

[okteiviakom]

"I don't know," Octavia muttered, turning her face a little more against his chest, with a sigh. "Nothing holds me like that."

Bound her like that.

"You are rather strong," Lucifer said softly. "Perhaps you were trying to figure out which way you wanted to go..."
