Last night had been okay. The margaritas had been tasty, and Octavia had acquiesced to Lucifer's request of not letting him go home alone by dragging him back to her boat with her at the end of the night. She'd passed out hard not too long after because, again, tasty margaritas.

Of course, now it was morning, and she was finally stirring again.

And the muffled little groan was almost immediate.

Goddamn margaritas.

There was an apology that nearly came out of his mouth, but Lucifer knew her too well now to let it slip. He just... held on, enjoying the heat around him as he came down slowly.

Until he finally stilled entirely.

He opened his eyes and peered down at her.

"See," he mumbled. "Beautiful."

Octavia pulled off him with a fairly obscene wet sound. Wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, then crawled up, bringing the covers back up with her.

And rasped, "Nothing people say immediately after orgasm should be taken seriously."

"Said it before, too," Lucifer said lazily, reaching out for her. "And I am deadly serious."

"Uh huh," Octavia said, as she moved to snuggle up against his side, with her head against his shoulder and with one leg draped over him. "So you keep saying."

Lucifer wrapped an arm around her and pulled her even closer. "Because I mean it," he said, kissing the top of her head.

"I know you do," Octavia murmured into his skin. With a little less off her playfully argumentative tone.

Okay, a lot less of it.

"Mm," Lucifer hummed, in acknowledgement of that tone shift. He pressed his cheek against her, and wrapped his other arm around her, as well.

Octavia felt snug, and comfortable.

And safe.

(It was weird how it kept coming back to that, lately. Safe.)

"That was hot," she muttered quietly, drawing absent little shapes against his shoulder, her arm resting against his chest.

"I quite enjoyed it," Lucifer agreed, softly. "You are a force of nature when you put your mind to it."

Even her snort was soft.

"More mouth than mind."

"Thankfully," Lucifer said, smiling against her hair, "I quite like your bratty little mouth."

"Not a brat."

Well.

Not really with anyone else but him?

"I beg to differ," Lucifer said, letting his fingers slide up and down the tattoo on her shoulder.

Octavia sighed quietly. Sometimes she was very easy when it came to soft touches.

"So what do you think makes me a brat?"

"Oh, you know exactly what I mean," Lucifer said, and nuzzled her hair. "You like trying to one-up me. In the most pedantic way you can think of."

"I don't know if that's true."

[my_own_advocate]

"Too bad," Lucifer said, chuckling softly. "Because you are bratty. And beautiful. And, hm, bold." He kissed the top of her head. "Occasionally belligerent."

"You handle my belligerence just fine," Octavia murmured, nuzzling his shoulder.

It was why she threw it at him, specifically.

"You may be the sweetest belligerent woman I've ever had in my life," Lucifer teased. (Which said more about the other belligerent women in his life, really.) "That helps."

Octavia had broken a bottle over his head, so. Yes, she figured it said less about her than about the others.

"Yeah, well," she murmured. And quieter still: "Thank you."

No, she wasn't thinking about the bottle incident.

Maze practically made stabbing him in the back a full-time job.

"There's nothing to thank me for," Lucifer said, quieter.

"I know." That was more of a sigh than anything. "Let me do it anyway."

"If you insist."

"I do."

Her fingers were just brushing back and forth against his shoulder now, and she was watching them move.

"Last time, here... That was good, too."

"Quite different," Lucifer mused, relaxing a bit against the pillow. "But still good, yes."
